This week Congregation Beit Edmond is honored to be hosting Rabbi David Stav, Chief Rabbi of the City of Shoham, Israel and the co-founder and Chairman of the TZOHAR organization.

Rav Stav is a graduate of Yeshivat Mercaz Harav and holds semikha in dayanut from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.  In 1998, he co-founded the Hesder Yeshiva in Petach Tikvah and currently serves as the spokesman for all Hesder Roshei Yeshivot across Israel.  Recently considered as a candidate for Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rav Stav was also appointed as Co-Chief of Ohr Torah Stone alongside Rabbi Riskin.

TZOHAR is an organization that makes Jewish life accessible to secular Israelis by promoting moderate rabbinic leadership and public policy initiatives throughout Israel. Through its network of volunteer rabbis who seek flexibility and accommodation while adhering to halakha, TZOHAR aims to diffuse the tension between the rabbinic establishment and secular public and has notably been responsible for thousands of halakhic marriages that might otherwise have been conducted abroad.

In 2009, Rav Stav and TZOHAR received the prestigious Presidential Award for Volunteers in recognition of their groundbreaking work. "It is important that the Jewish people draw pride and educational inspiration from your work," said then President Shimon Peres upon presenting the award to Rav Stav.
